English translation/equivalent: Ptolemy

Origin: Derived from the Greek and means "warrior." The name is popular principally in Lazio as a result of the cult of St. Tolomeo, martyred in Rome in the 2nd century, and for St. Tolomeo, the disciple of Peter. Tolomeo (Ptolemy) was the name of fifteen Egyptian kings and also the name of the Greek astronomer and mathematician who originated the geocentric astronomic system that bears his name.
