Recently, an article in the Automotive section of the New York Times declared that: After 53 Years of Beauty Sleep, the B.A.T. Is Back. It turns out that B.A.T. is an Italian abbreviation that stands for Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica, a line of concept cars built by Gruppo Bertone, an Italian car styling and coachbuilding house. The cars, which resemble a futuristic, windswept helmet with curved fins, were built on an Alfa Romeo chassis and are a favorite of collectors. After 50 dormant years, the design team has a new car, the B.A.T. 11.The article also mentions the term carrozzeria—an automotive design house—and the rich history of skilled Italian auto design studios that includes such esteemed names as Ghia, Touring, Zagato, and Pininfarina.
