Shovel It In

So you just bought a huge cup of heavenly gelato from a gelateria artisanale and, well, a cucchiaio (spoon) just won't do. A cucchiaione (tablespoon) is obviously too big, and a cucchiaino (teaspoon) will miss the last bits of the delicious treat. What you need is a paletta gelato, a tiny, shovel-like utensil with a flattened tip.

And in case you're wondering, a cucchiaio da minestra refers to a soup spoon.
