The Italian Language Board
Benvenuti navigatori to The Roman Forum, the Italian Language Community Bulletin Board at About.com! Once the epicenter of the known world, now the civic heart of the Italian language community. Post a note, ask a question, or meet an online penpal!

This is the place to talk about anything related to the Italian language. Verb conjugation, grammar, pronunciation, recommendations for schools or travel are all welcomed. This bulletin board is intended not only for students and teachers of the Italian language but also for those passionate and enthusiastic about all things Italian. If it's green, white, and red, let's talk about it.

Please feel free to post announcements relating to Italian linguistics, cultural and social events, web site features, food, art, history, and news events. You may include your URL in your post and it will appear as a hyperlink when your message is saved.

FAQ

  1. Q. Do I have to post in Italian on the Forum?
    A. No. Although we encourage posts in Italian, feel free to use English as well. If you have a vocabulary or grammar question it may be easier to ask in English. Only in our "Solamente In Italiano" section is Italian required.
  2. Q. What kind of topics are discussed on the Forum?
    A. We talk about the Italian language, and we talk in Italian. There are also specific sections (folders) for topics such as "Grammatica Essenziale" and the current Italian language poll. Newcomers can greet each other and present their bios in the "Il Fare Conoscere" (Introduction) section. On request, new folders will be created at The Roman Forum for other topics.
  3. Q. What is considered acceptable behavior?
    A. It's our goal to provide everyone with the most pleasant, useful, and safe Forum experience on the Internet. Therefore, gratuitous vulgarities, insults, and boorish name-calling will not be tolerated. Discussions of slang, euphemisms, and obscenities are acceptable within reason - after all, colloquial expressions are what gives Italian its zing. And heated arguments are fine too - everyone has an opinion. But name-calling and dirty words used only to shock will not be tolerated.
  4. Q. What is considered off-limits in the forums?
    A. The Forum is off-limits to foul tirades and personal invective, and those users who persist in loutish behavior will not participate in the discussions.
  5. Q. What's the most effective way to search for specific topics in the Italian Language Forum and Il Foro Romano?
    A. If you've got a question, chances are good it's already been answered.

Here's how to use the search function in the forums: use the ADVANCED SEARCH option and be sure to specify a time frame greater than a year. You're much more likely to get valid results. On the right-hand side of the page, below SEARCH THIS FORUM, click ADVANCED SEARCH. Then, under ADDITIONAL CRITERIA/UPDATED FROM, choose BEGINNING OF TIME. Don't forget to include the words you want to search for in the search field.

  6. Q. Can I post press releases about products or URLs of sites related to the Italian language?
    A. While the community at the About.com Guide to Italian Language appreciates being made aware of all things Italian, press releases are more appropriate as part of an advertising campaign. And although we encourage people to share helpful URLs with other members, visiting these Forums with the exclusive intent of spamming or promoting other forums and web sites is prohibited.
  7. Q. How can I advertise on the About.com Guide to Italian Language?
    A. If your site is commercial in nature, see the About.com media kit for advertising opportunities on this site and the About.com network.
