Talk To Me - The Conversation Method
An innovative and interactive language learning method, Talk To Me is based on comprehension and oral expression. It is ideal for improving spoken fluency in Italian and allows users to have a fluent and interactive dialogue with their computer. Talk to Me is the perfect tool for improving pronunciation, intonation, and accent, and practicing phonetics. The Italian version is available in two levels: beginner/intermediate and advanced.
The Talk to Me CD-ROM includes over 100 hours of lessons, more than 40 hours of conversation practice, over 700 sentences and 2000 words recognized by the speech recognition technology, and more than 1000 exercises. Access to many complementary linguistic resources via the Internet gives the program another dimension that is both instructional and entertaining.
Functionality and Interactivity
From the main menu, the following activities can be accessed: pronunciation, dialogue, exercises, translation, lesson report, options, help, and guided tour.
Before the interactive dialogue, for example, an introductory video illustrates the theme of the lesson selected. Then, the computer speaks to the user, who in turn chooses one of three responses displayed and says it clearly. Then the computer evaluates the answer, and if it recognizes the response highlights it in green. Another useful feature is the pronunciation exercise, which utilizes speech recognition using a pitch curve display. The user listens to the selected sentence, then repeats it imitating the pronunciation model, whose waveform and pitch curve are displayed on the screen. Talk to Me assesses the user's pronunciation and awards a score.
