Italian Language Learning Software

Ask a child how she learned to talk, and more than likely she'll give you a quizzical look. It's like asking a dog how he learned to bark. But for teens and adults, learning a foreign language seems like a mysterious task only a privileged few have been able to master. Fearful of making a pronunciation error, and in a rush to gain knowledge instantly, they shy away from an educational pursuit that, if they committed themselves to it, would give them incredible joy.

There is no silver bullet for learning Italian, even though the promise (threat?) of spontaneous spoken language translation makes language audio labs seem quaint. For those with the time, dedication, and money, the odds-on choice is a total-immersion language school. It's comparable to drinking from a firehose. Barring that, a well-rounded approach that includes attending a traditional academic program, reading an Italian textbook, completing workbook exercises, listening to a tape or CD, and conversing with a native Italian speaker is the most effective way to learn Italian.

Innovative Speech Recognition
In the age of the Internet, though, with so-called smart clothes and wearable computers, there is now another way to learn a language. Since it's no longer unusual to observe people walking down the street seemingly talking to themselves as they use their cell phones with an earbud device, scrawling on their Palm Pilots and using wireless Internet devices, it was only a matter of time before those technophiles found a way to learn the Italian language in a complementary style.

Auralog, a leader in CD-ROM language learning software based on speech recognition, has two interactive products that would satisfy even the true go-go gadget geek. Full-screen MPEG videos create a dynamic visual environment, while 3D phonetic animations facilitate pronunciation by representing mouth movements for individual phonetic sounds. An exclusive spoken error tracking system highlights mispronounced words within individual sentences, and the state-of-the-art speech recognition recognizes what the user says, assesses their pronunciation, and corrects any mistakes.
