Italiano, Ci Manchi

By January 10, 2013

Follow me on:

Italiano, ci manchi is a list of semantic equivalents to many Italian foreignisms [in Italian].

The compiler of the list notes that:

"Proponiamo qui una lista (in fieri) di traducenti italiani, alcuni già esistenti e registrati nei dizionari, altri in potenza, e che potrebbero diventare lemmi nei vocabolari se verranno usati su larga scala. Il contributo di tutti i parlanti è necessario, ma soprattutto quello dei mezzi d'informazione, perché la lingua italiana rimanga vitale e in grado d'esprimere, col proprio lessico e le proprie strutture, tutte le realtà del mondo moderno."

Ciao tutti!

I have been learning Italian for two years now, and even I (a native English speaker) am finding the introduction of English words, especially when they are not absolutely necessary … to be an assault on the most beautiful language in the world!!

I can well understand new words being required to describe things in the modern world … such as computers and internet technology etc. But otherwise, in my learning so far I am trying to stick to the original Italian wherever possible, for example using spesa instead of shopping, and fine settimana for weekend etc.

I am soooo happy to have come across this proposed dictionary of terms which I will definitely start using and BRAVO to the authors!!!! : )

Grazie tanto
Ciao, Jodina
