To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the publishing of Il Vocabolario degli Accademici della Crusca, the national language academy of Italy is hosting La Piazza delle Lingue 2012. The event, to be held November 6-7 at the Villa Medicea di Castello and at the Spazi Urbani Contemporanei at Le Murate in Florence, will include lectures, presentations, and a concert.

The Vocabulario, a dictionary of "pure" words, was first published in 1612 and later taken as a model by other European states.

(1) JLF says:

Does any remember the old “Melzi” 2 sections in one dictionary ?
I lived with it true my “:ginnasio & Liceo”; I use the “Garzanti” but no scientific section; if I look for “Roma” no entry; it is a scientific entry, Geography.; I would love to find an old Melzi. JLF

(2) About.com Guide to Italian Language says:

I assume you’re referring to: “Il Novissimo Melzi Dizionario Enciclopedico Italiano in Due Parti (Part I: Linguistica) (Part II: Scientifica). The original, “Nuovo Dizionario Universale della Lingua Italiana, Storico, Geografico, Scientifico, Biografico, Mitologico, Ec” was first published by Giovanni Battista Melzi in 1881.
