Although the suffix -issimo is one of the most common means of intensification in Italian, its use is not as simple as it might seem. In fact, the use of this suffix has a number of limitations. For example, the following terms do not exist in Italian: inascoltabilissimo, statalissimo, marittimissimo, egoistissimo.

The suffix is frequently used in marketing and the media; a recent article in L'Espresso, on luxurious, high performance exotic cars such as the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport and the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, was headlined Sportivissime.
