Exercise Your Italian Verbs

Wednesday October 28, 2009

One useful method for studying verbs is to take an excerpt of several paragraphs—print out an article from an Italian newsweekly—and highlight every verb. Then translate each verb and identify the tense. Parse it out—write out the infinitive, look up the word in a dictionary if you don't know it, and be sure to clarify the tense. You will improve your comprehension immeasurably since verbs are the key to the language.

When I try to get to http://www.eday.it/, ebay Italia over-rides it. I would love to receive a daily customized Italian newspaper. What’s going on here? Help!
Thanks Enola

Highlighting is a useful exercise — and not just for verbs. Noun and prepositional phrases (with attention to the adjectives and adverbs they might contain), direct and indirect object pronouns, the passive voice, etc., etc. should also be highlighted (in different colors), one grammatical unit at a time — in short all those complex features of Italian for Anglophones who have a far simpler native language.
