The history of Sicily, in all its unwieldy, fascinating recounting, spans several millennia and involves countless foreign conquerors, deadly natural disasters, culinary innovations, crime, and architectural wonders. An entertaining video short, though, the Storia della Sicilia in Cento Secondi, compresses thousands of years of human history—and 180 million years of geological history—into 100 seconds.
The colorful animation was created by native Sicilian Salvatore Scandurra, a filmmaker, animator, and multimedia artist, and there's an English version too: History of Sicily in One Hundred Seconds. In the words of Scandurra, it's a
"Narrazione ipercompatta del gran numero di conflitti, guerre, monarchie, dominazioni, martiri e delinquenze che hanno sventrato l'isola nei millenni."
