Dieci Domande a Berlusconi

Sunday May 31, 2009

The New York Times reports that Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's escapades have finally raised eyebrows. This time, it's the possibility of improprieties with Noemi Letizia, an 18-year-old girl from Naples—and allegations too that "Mr. Berlusconi, 72, invited Ms. Letizia and 40 other girls, some like her at the time younger than 18, to spend New Year’s Eve at one of his villas in Sardinia."

The crushing wave of media interest and speculation has even led La Repubblica, a national Italian newspaper, to take the unusual step of repeatedly posing ten questions to Berlusconi to explain the nature of his relationship with Letizia. Some of the "dieci domande a Berlusconi" include: Quante volte ha avuto modo di incontrare Noemi Letizia e dove? (How many times have you met Noemi Letizia, and where?) and Veronica Lario [Berlusconi’s wife] ha detto che lei "frequenta minorenni." Ce ne sono altre che incontra o "alleva?" (Veronica Lario said that you "frequent under-age girls." Do you meet any others or "bring them up"?).

La Repubblica has provided the questions in both English and Italian, just in case Berlusconi doesn't understand his native tongue!
