Una Birra!

Wednesday November 5, 2008
Italian beer drinkers no longer have to settle for either Moretti or Peroni, the two brands that have long dominated the market. Around Italy, a craft beer scene has sprung up, bringing well-made specialty brews into haute cuisine dining rooms and elevating the fare served in brew pubs, creating an attractive destination for beer lovers who also love great food.

Comme se dice “gimmie a brewski” in italiano?? Non e`…
..forse “dammi una birra”, e` piu gentile…

Looking forward to trying some crafted beers, but Nastro Azzurro is an EXCELLENT pilsner-style beer, better than Moretti or Peroni any day!

But Italy is the heartland of i vini deliziosi, so put away your mugs and have your calice ready…

thanx for all of your corrections, cheryl, but i was going for the nutty american requesting a beer…not necessarily being “gentile”. i learned “che vuol dire” from my italian friends when i lived in italy. regards, marianna

Well then, Marianna, by all means just stick with “gimme a brewski” !!

I remember going to a bar one morning with a terrible hangover, and learned from a British friend that the Brits drink a “shandy” as a cure (1/2 beer, 1/2 lemonade).

When I requested mezzo birra e mezzo limonata, not only the bartender but the patrons looked at me askance…and they waited and stared until I’d quaffed the entire glass. When I explained that it was for a “postumi della sbornia”, they laughed…but I can’t guarantee the same results when ordering a brewski!

“postumi della sbornia” . Now there’s a new Italian phrase for me.

Nastro Azzurro is a Peroni brand.

I stand corrected - it’s been awhile since I’ve seen Nastro’s label - and yes, I do remember it has the Peroni seal on it.
A very nice beer, hope I can find it in Boston…and even better consumed in Rome on a hot day (and cheaper than the crafted beers!)

Sorry to correct the correction, but it is actually: “Come si dice”
