Dessert Bomb

An Italian donut is known as a bombolone—big bomb. The dolce tondeggiante ripieno is a roundish, filled pastry. Classic fillings include vanilla pastry cream or marmalade. Perhaps not surprisingly, someone who eats too many of the fried delicacies might find themselves with the nickname bombolone (that is, a person who is corpulent)!
