After you've mastered Italian, prove your proficiency with the CILS Exam. The Certificazione di Italiano come Lingua Straniera is the definitive examination to prove competence in the Italian language. The CILS test is held twice a year in June and December at the Università per Stranieri di Siena and at other institutions abroad. Divided into four levels, the certificate is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and most Italian universities as a requirement for admission.

Thank you so much for posting this question and response! I’ve been trying to get a list of testing facilities in the US for about a week now!
I need to pass the UNO exam to apply for a MBA program I am interested. Has anyone taken the exam? Any tips, or comments?
Grazie!

IN ENGLISH : Hello, can you tell me precisely in what building/part of York University will the Italian exam be conducted in, including the date and time. Anyhow, I wish to know the date, I believe it is on Friday the 6th, June 2008, at York. Also, how does one get to York University by taking the Queen Elisabeth Way eastbound from Hamilton to 496 Huron Street? How much does it cost to write the 2nd highest exam for the series for a certificate in Italian. Does one have to do only one level out of all the six levels, especially/exclusively the last?
Thank you, very much.

Come si arriva all’università York? Come si arriva alla strada Huron No. 496 dalla Queen Elisabeth Way andando verso est da Hamilton? Grazie, Molto. Quanto costa fare il quinto esame (2ndo più forte) dall’alto in giù? Si debba scrivere tutti i livelli della serie di esami specialmente/esclusivamente l’ultimo per acquistare il certificato?
Grazie molto !

I suggest you contact York University directly for these types of questions. I’m sure their Web site has directions, too.

CILS Advise- I took the B1 test in December, and I have some advise to pass on. I took a review course which helped a lot. You can purchase practice tests for the CILS on line, and the CILS site has a practice test on their test, but you will need more than that. Also, there is a part of the test that asks you to put a story in order. I wanted to switch an answer, but you have to write in all of your answers in pen. When I asked if I could white out an answer the proctor said no. So, I’m sure I flunked that section. So, my advise is to buy erasable black ink pens for the test, and learn the format before hand. I took the test in Rome, and the proctor gave no instructions. I’m sure if I took it somewhere else there would have been more instructions. I thought the listening section was the hardest, because it the dialogue was so fast. The Italian in the reading wasn’t difficult, but it was a convoluted story. The test is about 3/4 about Italian and 1/4 test taking skills.
Thanks for all of your information! I’ve found that one does not have to take all sections, only the desired section. More information would really help, as I will soon be signing up to take this exam myself.
I am Indian and I have done some courses in Italian Langauge. I want to apply for any scholarship exam in italian. COuld you kindly help how and from where should i apply for the same.
