Italian Acronym in the News

Wednesday July 13, 2005
An Italian acronymn is featured in international news. According to Reuters, "Italian police have launched a nationwide crackdown on suspected radical Islamic militants following last week's deadly attacks in London." Police and Carabinieri officers backed by Italy's special anti-terrorism unit, the DIGOS, searched homes and buildings in Turin, Florence, Bologna, Rome, Naples and other cities. Hundreds of people underwent identity checks, and documents and computer equipment were seized for analysis.

DIGOS stands for Divisioni Investigazioni Generali e Operazioni Speciali: General Investigations and Special Operations Divisions.
