Schoenhof’s Foreign Books

Saturday April 30, 2005
If you're looking for language-learning material in Italian, or you're interested in Italian fiction, nonfiction, or children’s books, try Schoenhof’s Foreign Books. Learning material includes grammars, textbooks, dictionaries, phrase books, audio courses, and linguistic studies, and the literary section of their Italian department continues to widen to include lesser-known works by major writers as well as a growing array of younger authors.

Founded in 1856, Schoenhof’s is the oldest foreign language book dealer and the fourth oldest bookstore in the United States, and they claim to offer the largest selection of foreign-language books in North America. Schoenhof’s has a retail store in Harvard Square (Cambridge, MA) and comprehensive distribution, mail order, and special order services.

I doubt if Schoenhof’s Foreign Books went out of business. That being said, I used the Internet Wayback Machine to investigate the site. Back in April of this year the following notice was posted on the home page at http://www.schoenhofs.com/

SPECIAL NOTICE/NEWS
In order to offer even better service to our valued customers, our website is undergoing some repairs. During this time we are unable to make any updates or changes to the information on the site.

Please note the following:
Not all titles listed on the website are in stock. Some prices have changed, but we will inform you of any changes at the time of ordering. The special order, tracking, and course books on the web functions are no longer working. We will be very happy to answer any questions or offer any more information either by telephone, 617.547.8855, or by e-mail, info@schoenhofs.com

We apologize for any inconvenience, and we are working very hard to correct these issues as we improve our website.

It appears as if the site continues to be down, so I suggest contacting the bricks-and-mortar location.

Un salutone,
