Efforts to Proliferate Italian Must be Reinforced

Wednesday December 15, 2004
According to the Agenzia Giornalistica Italia, during an awards ceremony for education, culture, and art, Italian president Carlo Azeglio Ciampi said that: "We must reinforce our efforts in the proliferation of Italian around the world," said Italian president Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, during an awards ceremony for education, culture, and art. "We have to internationalise our university system, have more foreign students in our universities so that they can study side by side with our students."

Ciampi also said that: "At the same time, we have to increase the teaching of our language around the world, without wasting resources. We also have to give ourselves quantitative goals for the growth of students and the expansion of geographical areas, which can be measured year by year."

According to the president, "It is important that the universities and the schools, together with the job market, collaborate for more concreteness to the Italian model of development, a model that valorises the territory, training, and new technologies. We have to increase our competitiveness, promoting that extraordinary scientific and cultural tradition for which the world knows us."
